CEFIXIME: Drug Information in short
Name:- Cefixime (50/100/200/400) Class:- Cephalosporin
Act against Gram-negative, gram-positive bacteria, and anaerobic bacteria. Its act by inhibition of bacterial wall synthesis
The half-life of cefixime is 3 hours
Indication:- Infection of respiratory, urinary, and biliary.
Dosage:- 1. Adult 200 to 400 mg in two divided doses for 7 to 14 days.
2. Children 8mg/kg body weight in two divided doses.
Not recommended for children below 6 months.
Contraindications:- Hypersensitivity to any cephalosporin group.
Precaution:- Severe renal impairment. In pregnancy and lactation use with caution.
Side effects:- G-I Disturbance, Headache, Dizziness, and rashes.
Drug Interaction:- Salicylic acid, probenecid.
